How to say "I'll pay by credit card" in Japanese
When you take a taxi or go to a restaurant, cafe, supermarket, hairdresser, etc., you may be asked how you would like to pay:
お支払 いはどうしますか?
or more simply, お支払 いは?
Both mean that "How would you like to pay?" In this situation, if you want to pay by credit card or debit card, you can say:
・カードで払 います。
・カードでお願 いします。
I'll pay by credit card.
You don't need to specify whether you use "クレジットカード (credit card)" or "デビットカード (debit card)."
Examples with other payment methods:
I'll pay in cash
スイカで払 います。
I'll pay by Suica.
パスモで払 います。
I'll pay by Pasmo.
Just so you know, "スイカ" is not referring to watermelon or "すいか (suika)" here🍉 It's referring to a prepaid smart card, Suica. Pasmo is also a prepaid smart card that's widely used in Japan.
You can find more details about Suica and Pasmo on the East Japan Railway Company website (for Suica) and Pasmo Co., Ltd. website (for Pasmo).
Hope this helps! Please feel free to leave comments and questions below.
